Ipsos study: Use of cashless payment methods in Malaysia dipped right after peak of Covid-19 pandemic

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — Cashless payment methods, once dominant during the pandemic, have seen a decline in Malaysia, with only 51% using them in Q4 2023, according to Ipsos Malaysia. Online banking and debit cards lead at 35%, followed by e-wallets at 26%, and credit cards at 9%. The 25 to 34 age group is most active, with 45% using online banking and 34% using e-wallets. Touch 'n Go dominates at 88%, especially for tolls and transportation (55%). Ipsos notes a shift from e-wallets for retail to physical stores, based on 1,015 respondents aged 18-74.
